Creating an animation in response to studied artifacts provides excellent opportunities for pupils to demonstrate creativity through graphic, narrative and technical skills. ICT has made animation affordable and highly interactive. Pupils can produce quality work in class time or develop more complex sequences at home. Stop frame, bitmap and vector drawing animations are all possible for modern pupils. David Perks Head of Art, Weston Road High School

At Weston Road animation is taught as part of the Year 8 Art curriculum. We use a vector drawing program called Serif DrawPlus. The school has a site license for DrawPlus 8 which allows pupils to purchase an individual copy for £10. In addition, Serif freely distributes version 4 http://www.freeserifsoftware.com *
Examples of animations by Weston Road pupils can be viewed at http://wart.110mb.com *
