Rayon evening dress, late 1940s
The boned bodice, full skirt and narrow waist
of this dress are typical of the 'New Look' which
became popular after the Second World War. Clothes
rationing continued until 1949. The Government
considered the New Look to be frivolous, but women
loved the fashionable, feminine style, which left
the austerity of wartime Britain behind.
This dress was worn in Stoke-on-Trent.
