Blackladies was a priory of Benedictine nuns which was established near Brewood by the middle of the 12th century. The name ‘Blackladies’ comes from the colour of the nuns’ habit or dress. The nunnery was dissolved in 1538 and the remains were incorporated into a domestic house.
