This group of striking miners did well during the 1926 strike. Their weekly wage before the strike was about 30 shillings (£1.50). The younger ones earned about 15 shillings (£0.75). Now, outcropping, they were the coal owners, making some £20.oo a week. They were able to refurbish their cottages and bought new furniture.
