Safety and rescue / Ambulance

Injured miners were taken to the local hospital for treatment. After the 1880s ambulance teams were formed at many collieries to administer first aid prior to the arrival of the local doctor. Besides medical officers at the various levels, there are ambulance and first-aid men distributed throughout all parts of the mine on all shifts. Every encouragement and incentive are given to obtain as many trained first-aid men as possible.
