Transcript of Document: Poster advertising a torchlight procession in Lichfield on Coronation night, 9 August 1902 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CITY OF LICHFIELD Declaration of PEACE. Monday, 2nd June, 1902 At a meeting of the City Council and Citizens held in the Guildhall this morning it was resolved: "That the Mayor and corporation shall attend in State the special Thanksgiving Service arranged by the Dean, to be held at the Cathedral at four o'clock this afternoon." "That a Torchlight Procession take place this evening at 9 o'clock." I therefore have the pleasure in inviting all Citizens to meet me at the Guildhall, at 3-30 this afternoon and to fall-in with the Civic Procession to the Cathedral. The Torchlight procession this evening will start from the Guildhall at 9 o'clock, when I hope it will be accompanied by such Military Bands as can be arranged for. May I remind Citizens that I greatly desire that this Celebration shall take the form of sincere Thanksgiving to Almighty God rather than a mere exhibition of exuberant rejoicing. I ernestly ask the co-operation of everyone, and suggest that windows may be illuminated as far s possible. GEORGE HAYNES, MAYOR Printed by A.C. Lomar's Sucessors, The "Johnson's Head, " Lichfield
