Transcript of document: Extract from the diary of 'C' Squadron of the Staffordshire Yeomanry recording Christmas celebrations in Europe after 'D' Day, December 1944 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday Dec 25th Christmas day started off quietly with church Service at 10:30 followed by Holy Communion. At 11.30 officers and 'NCO',s' and men met in the squadron billet over tow or three barrels of beer. This continued until 13:00, when the men all went downstairs and Christmas dinner was served by officers and Sgt's to the men! On a table full of bottles of English beer and Cognac. Everyone by now was in the Xmas spirit and things went with a swingspeeches made by all officers and W.O.s' After a quiet afternoon, officers proceeded to Officers mess for cocktails and dinner. This developed Later into a very lively party, including the presentation of leg pulling presents from the Xmas tree.
